  1. Contest participants must be a current smoker as of October 1, 2006. For this contest, a smoker is defined as someone who smokes cigarettes on 10 or more days in a month for at least the past year.
  2. Contest participants will agree to submit a urine specimen before the start of the contest to verify tobacco use status. Please see the registration page for information on when and where to submit urine specimens.
  3. Contest participants must be a staff or faculty member, full-time and part-time, from University of Minnesota, Duluth. Graduate students, including graduate assistants, are not eligible as faculty or staff.
  4. Contest participants must be 18 years of age or older.
  5. Contest participants must enroll with a Smoke-free Friend. The Smoke-free Friend must currently be a non-smoker, 18 years of age or older, and be willing to answer a brief questionnaire if their friend (the contest participant) is chosen as a potential winner.
  1. There are two steps in the Quit & Win registration process.
    Step 1: Complete the Quit & Win Registration Form by October 31, 2006. You can complete the form either:
  • Online. Online registration closes 10 pm Sunday, October 29th. OR;

  • By phone by 12 noon Friday, October 27th. Call Amanda Woodfield at 612-626-5520 OR; 

  • By fax by 12 noon Friday, October 27th. Print the paper registration form and fax it to 612-625-2925) OR;

  • In person. Stop by the Quit & Win Registration Table at your campus to fill out the registration for (Step 1) and then complete Step 2 while you are there.

    Step 2:  Contest participants must stop by the Quit & Win Registration Table (see times and location) to complete your enrollment in Quit & Win. Enrolling will take less than 15 minutes. Contest participants must submit a pre-contest urine specimen on either of the dates below, to verify tobacco use status.

  1. Use of cessation aids is permissible and encouraged during the contest. For resources on cessation aids, go to the Quitting Tips & Resources page on this website, or contact Amanda Woodfield at (612) 626-5520.
  2. To be eligible for the final prize drawing, contest participants must:
    a. Be smoke-free for the entire month of November.
    b. Be willing to answer a post-contest online survey between December 1st and December 4th, 2006 to declare their smoke-free status.
    c. Be willing to submit a 2nd urine specimen for lab verification of smoke-free status if chosen from a random drawing from all self-report smoke-free participants.
  3. Final contest winners agree to have their first and last names in all Quit & Win promotional materials and related events.
  4. The final contest winners will be announced by December 13th, 2006.
  5. The Quit & Win contest is not open to members of the Quit & Win contest planning team, those staff representing sponsors, and their immediate family members.
  6. There is no exchange of prizes for cash value.
  7. All decisions are final. The Quit & Win contest planning team reserves the right to final judgment regarding eligibility and the awarding of prizes. Prizes will be awarded as determined in the contest promotion.
